(BEIJING, February 28) -- The Workers' Stadium, one of the competition venues for Olympic football events, has upgraded its barrier-free facilities for the convenience of spectators with disabilities.
The upgrade was part of a large renovation project on the stadium, which was recently completed.
The venue, which once served as the home turf for the Beijing-based Guo'an Club, was built in 1959 as one of the Ten Great Buildings constructed for the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
While maintaining its old facilities, the stadium installed larger restrooms and barrier-free lifts for people with disabilities.
In the southern part of the stands, two rows of seats especially designed for people with disabilities have been installed, which lead directly to the barrier-free lifts.
The inside running track and flag mast have been updated and buildings in the eastern part of the stadium, which will not be used during the Olympic Games, were reinforced and restored.
Efforts were also made to renew the outdoor running tracks, pitch, greens and other infrastructure.
Power-supply machines and drainage pipelines have also been updated to meet the standards of the Olympic Games.
