(Beijing, April 18) "We need your support and we come here just for the victory," the Ghanaian press officer noted before the 2008 Women's Olympic Football Tournament/Qualification Play-off Match between Ghana and Brazil.
Ghana, who had lost to Nigeria in an Olympic qualifier held earlier, has to face the world No.2 Brazil this time. Nevertheless, the African team has no fear at all as the press officer said, "Everybody asked us whether we would win the match. We have come here just for the victory, so please support us."
The Ghanaian players agreed and said "we are not strong enough but we are still confident of winning this match."
"Ghana attaches great importance to this match while we respect Brazil, a country of football. We lost to Nigeria in the qualifier and we have to face the formidable Brazilian team. Tomorrow's match will be our last chance," Ghana's head coach commented.
Speaking of the field, the Ghanaian players pointed out that "It is the same for Brazil and us, so it won't affect us much."
"Ghana and China are similar in both pronunciation and spelling (in English), if we lose, you will lose too, so you must support us," the press officer said jokingly.
