(Beijing, November 16) In the women's 63kg final of the 2007 Beijing Judo Open held this evening, Ayumi Tanimoto of Japan wins the gold medal by outdoing China's Yan Xuelan. Yan Xuelan took the silver medal, which was the best result by the host team in the two-day tournament.
Prior to the final contest, Ayumi Tanimoto and Yan Xuelan had defeated their respective opponents, Lee Jung-Hee of Korea and Han Guizhong of China, in the group finals. As a judoka developing in an all-round way, Ayumi Tanimoto had been doing well by beating a number of Chinese competitors to enter the gold-medal match. A minute into the final with Yan Xuelan, Ayumi Tanimoto held Yan down with her superb ground technique and then changed her body position to upper four quarters holding for a firmer hold of her Chinese opponent. Yan tried hard but could never break her hold. As a result, Ayumi Tanimoto won the match and the gold medal with an "ippon".
After the two bronze-medal contests, the bronze medals went to China's Han Guizhong and Wang Chin Fang of Chinese Taipei respectively.
